  • Holy Trinity Parish History

The making of one parish from three....

Holy Trinity Parish was formed from the merger of three Roman Catholic churches: Holy Family, St. Michael's, and Immaculate Conception.

Immaculate Conception: The first Catholic services in Fulton began in 1850. Rev. James Smith became the first pastor in 1854. Early services were held in various halls until a building was purchased and dedicated in 1858. In 1888, construction began on a new church, which was dedicated in 1895. A school was built adjacent to the church in 1914, with an addition in 1960. In 2001, an atrium and elevator were added for accessibility.

St. Michael's Parish: Polish immigrants began arriving in Fulton around 1901, attending Mass at Immaculate Conception. In 1909, the St. Michael's Society was founded to support the construction of a Polish church. After several pastors and temporary locations, Father Casimir Piejda purchased land, and the first St. Michael's Parish opened in a converted house. Later, under Father Stanley Macewicz, a new church was built and dedicated in 1961. St. Michael's Parish remained until June 24, 2007.

Holy Family: In 1930, West side families established Holy Family Parish. The first Masses were held in Hargrave's Hall, and a new church was built in 1931. A school was later added. A larger church was built, with ground-breaking in 1968, and dedication later that year.

Holy Trinity Parish: In the 1990s, Fulton experienced economic decline, leading to a decrease in population and church attendance. In 2006, the decision was made to consolidate the three parishes. St. Michael's closed, and its parishioners joined Holy Family, forming Holy Family/St. Michael Parish. Eventually, the remaining two parishes merged to form Holy Trinity Parish in March 2008, with Immaculate Conception church chosen as the location.
